Is it Easy or Hard to Make Adult Friends?

As a musician - have you ever moved, and had to make new friends as an adult?

I have done this soooooo many times - I should be the Queen of Moving!

My husband and I (along with our special needs adult son) made a BIG move in May of 2022. Our reason: to be closer to our grandkids.

That part is going great - but I needed new friends! I reached out to a friend from the past who also recently moved here. We teamed up to form a book club. We meet at her house every Friday morning. I lead the discussion, she makes coffee.

We are bot named “Kay” - and we have a blast together!

Our book club has grown from 2 people to over 30! Those ladies have been my lifeline. It's cool to see real friendships forming from this group!

Make New Friends, but keep the old!

As I was reflecting on my new friends, this well-loved Girl Scout song came to mind. I decided to arrange the tune for my level 1 beginners. And, because "the more, the merrier" - I also composed an equal part student duet, and a teacher duet part!

This piece is perfect for a discussion on friendship, who we should befriend (let's include people not exactly like us, who need friends!) and how we can be a friend. I love this song for Valentine's Day - when we can draw attention to LOVE and FRIENDSHIP.

I’d love to know how your studio is going! Do you see friendships? Does playing music together help form bonds in your studio? Let me know - I’d love to hear from you:)
